Betsy DeVos’ the 11th Education Secretary of the united states was born in 1958. She is also a renowned American politician and an entrepreneur. The philanthropist has been in the forefront in provision of education, supporting the school charters, voucher programs, and choice. She is a former multi-level marketing company Amway, CEO.
Betsy has served in several leadership positions, for six years she worked for Michigan as a Republican National Committeewoman. From 1996 – 2000, the entrepreneur was also the chair of Michigan Republic party. Devos served as a board of chair of Education in the Alliance for school choice and Action Institute. Besides heading all children matter PAC, she was an advocate for the Detroit Charter school system.
The philanthropist is a graduate in business economics from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her involvement in politics started way back when in college. For 25 years she has been encouraging for school choice during her philanthropic and political work. She works as Great Lakes Education Project board member and a chairperson of the pro-school choice group American Federation for children.
Financial Generosity and Charitable Work
Betsy donated over $150,000 for the Bush re-election campaigns in 2004. In 2008 the philanthropist held a Democrat fundraiser. She was the National Republican Senatorial Committee head of finance in several projects. The Democrat has since 1989, donated over $17 million to various political candidates. She is the co-founder of the Dick & Devos family Foundation that was launched in 1989. It is a motivational foundation based on leadership cultivation, transformation acceleration and support influence. The organization focuses on community, education, leadership, justice, and art. The foundation donated contributions worth $1.6 million to charitable works. In overall 2015 the fund was ranked among the top givers in American reaching to $139 million donations.
DeVos Foundation has been funding hospitals, Christian schools, evangelical missions, arts and health organizations, conservatives, free-market think tanks. Between 2014 – 1999, $100 million was geared towards the support of the Christian groups. Charter school received donations worth $ 5.2million, $59.750 to the public schools and $8.6 million to the Christian schools. Grand Rapids Christian High School Association received the support of $ 2.39 million and $ 652,000 was channeled to Ada Christian School. Holland Christian Schools support was $ 458,000.
DeVos is a well-connected leader, who has been supporting the interests of Washington poor kids. She has built her career by networking with experts and entrepreneurs, and through her foundation, she has helped the education and well-being of these kids. The entrepreneur has led the national battle in the development of children educational opportunities.
The focus of Betsy is on educational opportunity, and she advocates for the support of education programs. She has championed education circles in school choice and issued private school vouchers to needy families. DeVos gained her milestone in the nomination as the education secretary due to her networks and interest in the neglected kid’s support.
